Dr. Seyed Masoud NooriSeyed Masoud Noori is a Law professor, Islamic issues researcher, and journalist focusing on the relationship between Sharia and the international human rights law system. In addition to a PhD in Private Law, he has more than 20 years of experience in studying, teaching, and researching Islam-especially the Shi’a school- at Qom seminary, including 8 years advanced and research courses - known as kharij - Usul al-Fiqh (Principles of Jurisprudence) and Fiqh (Jurisprudence).
His professional experiences include working with United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), International Bar Association (IBA) and Max Planck Research Group on Family and Succession Law in Islamic Countries.
Before joining Trinity University in January 2016, he was a Scholar in Residence at the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice (CHRGJ) NYU Law School. Since March 2014 he serves as research director of Center for the Study of Islam & the Middle East (CSIME), Washington DC. In 2013 he was a senior scholar in residence at Center for Human Rights and Global Justice (CHR&GJ), NYU Law School. In 2012 he taught as a visiting professor at Emory Law School. In 2011 he was a visiting scholar at the Irish center for human rights (National University of Ireland, Galway).
He was previously a faculty member at Mofid University, Qom, Iran, where he served at the Center for Human Rights Studies in several leadership positions. During this period he and his colleagues, in the framework of a five years (2005-2008) national project sponsored by the UNDP established a number of human rights institutions for the first time in Iran. Like clinical legal education program, Special Library and Documentation Center for Human Rights, and a Human Rights Journal.
He also has taught legal and Islamic issues in some other Iranian universities. He has participated in planning and holding more than 40 training courses, workshops and conferences in 15 countries in legal, human rights and religious issues as well as interfaith dialogue. So far he has published two Books, four books chapters, three encyclopedia articles, more than twenty articles, six editorial board notes, ten book reviews, nine bibliographies, and six edited books, in law, politics and religious issues, mainly in Persian.
He is a member of Global Alliance of persons committed to achieving Justice through Education (GAJE), and Editorial Board of Cultural and Religious Studies Journal (ISSN 2328-2177).
